Produced by Ernst Jorgensen, a well-known Elvis authority, the album also includes rare archival material and liner notes written by Grammy Award-winning music historian Robert Gordon. Of the 88 songs on the album, excluding the Sun era, four-time Grammy Award winner Matt Ross Spang has stripped away the overdubs and made only the raw sounds Elvis heard in the studio audible, before mixing the songs anew.His work has led to many new discoveries, from Elvis' intuitive chemistry with "The Memphis Boys," to the way he delicately built vocal phrasing around the backing singers' voices in the Stax sessions, to the joy he revealed in the final session at the Jungle Room. It is a work that gives new insight into the bond between Elvis and his eternal home, Memphis, which has played a pivotal role in his artistry.
